5 Hard Things To Do

1. Ask for Reviews

It makes our day when people tell us they've enjoyed their cakes or cupcakes! Over these years, the only way people have known about our business is by word of mouth and Facebook posts. Many of our customers have volunteered pictures and given wonderful reviews without us asking and we're so grateful. We've recently downloaded an App on our website that automatically requests reviews after an order, but we haven't quite figured out how to use it. lol!

2. Tell a Favorite Customer "No" (who ordered at the last minute)

We have many favorite customers who may have ordered often, sent us supportive messages, commented often, or just 'liked' our posts on FB. We love hearing from them! When our schedule is heavily booked, there are times when a customer calls last minute because they had forgotten to call earlier. We do e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g possible to accommodate and only a few times have had to say's always hard!

3. Refuse a Custom Cake you Just Don't Like

Not often, but yes, it does happen. Every baker has a favorite style and particular designs that challenge your skills for the better. Then there are some cake/cupcake designs that challenge you in a different way--they challenge you to keep interested. So often what we do is work even harder...and try to add a little extra pizazz to it, If there is a different style that we know other baker's do better, we always make a referral.


4. Managing all facets of the business

It's a challenge to do all the things that need done to keep even a small business going. Things have to get done or they will stop. I started to make a list of the activities, but it was too long and boring for anyone not in the baking business. Our small family volley's activities back and forth oftentimes hour by hour. We are continually working at bettering our systems. Some days it laughable!

5. Sticking to a diet

Okay. This is impossible. To have a bakery and be on a diet is also laughable. There is a grand effort each day to maintain a diet and yet, we make the desserts that we love and are readily available. My newest favorite cookie is the Almond Raspberry -- a buttery Almond cookie filled with large toasted almonds and filled with a tangy raspberry compote. When they come out of the oven, it's impossible not to have one. They just are THAT good! Oh well, tomorrow is another day!
